So many new “superfoods” are announced each month, it’s hard to keep up. Here’s a list of the trending ones.

Charting with a bullet after being shown recently to have massive anti-inflammatory properties that fight dementia. These are from punicalagin, a compound in pomegranate seeds’ skin.

2. Whey powder

Whey is a favourite source of protein for those who train but an Israeli study has shown whey protein concentrate can also restrict dangerous after-meal glucose spikes in type 2 diabetics.

It’s already known for lowering blood sugar but cinnamon has been shown to halt progression of Parkinson’s disease in rats in a US study (the liver converts cinnamon into sodium benzoate, which protects neurons in the brain and improves motor function).

Yes, the stuff you put on your pasta. Parmesan has more protein (37%) than other cheese so sprinkle heaps on your spaghetti for a more balanced carb and protein meal.

5. Pistachios

Pistachios are thought to be good for your heart and male libido, but a recent study published in Diabetes Care has shown them to significantly cut fasting glucose and insulin resistance.174241035
