Take a Zumba class at DW Fitness First
Influenced by many styles of dance (including everything from salsa to street dance), Zumba is a dance-cum-aerobics class performed to both Latin and international music. An infectious mix inspired by traditional cumbia, salsa, samba and merengue music, Zumba classes are easy to follow, addictive and a great group workout. Unlike most exercise classes though, Zumba is like one big party and although it involves set dance routines, if you don't know what you're doing, freestyle moves are actively encouraged.
The atmosphere may be fun and relaxed, but Zumba is a seriously good way to burn calories and shed fat. High and low intensity intervals get the heart rate going and routines involving the arms, legs and glutes make for a thorough all-body workout. With Zumba, the harder you work, the harder your muscles will, which is why our teachers will always tell participants to crank up the intensity and work up a sweat!
As well as the body, Zumba benefits the mind. The combination of the upbeat music and the feel-good endorphins released in the brain during physical activity help to raise your mood. Inviting friends to join you in class will increase the fun factor even more – why not dance, laugh and sweat together?
Zumba dance classes are available at most Fitness First gyms, with sessions running from 45 minutes to one hour. All Zumba classes are taught by our highly-trained, verified instructors.
With a range of virtual classes as some of our clubs there's no excuse to miss a Zumba session
What benefits will I get from a Zumba class?
● Burns calories - Combining aerobic activity with interval training, Zumba can burn an incredible amount of calories. The dance-based choreography and the types of movements involved ensure that your fat-burning capacity is maximised, and you’ll also find yourself incorporating standard exercises into your routine such as squats or push-ups.
● Full-body workout - Your entire body gets moving in Zumba and you never stay still for long! The footwork will strengthen your ankles and calves, whilst your upper body gets a good workout too thanks to the exaggerated arm movements.
● Aerobic and anaerobic benefits - Zumba helps you to hit a high heart rate much faster than standard exercise, and it keeps it there - perfect for building up your endurance. The benefits to your cardiovascular system are also huge, as this form of exercise increases how much oxygen you are able to take in.
● Confidence booster - Zumba requires you to move in a way that you probably aren’t used to, but through the encouragement of the instructor you’ll lower your inhibitions and give it your all. Over time you’ll find that your posture has improved, and you’ll also benefit from better coordination and more confidence.
