What is Bokwa?
Bokwa is a fitness sensation that was first taught in Los Angeles. The ‘Bo’ comes from boxing and the ‘Kwa’ comes from Kwaito, a South African style of dancing — the two main influences of Bokwa. It differs from other dance classes as there’s no strict choreography or steps to learn; it’s more about instinct.
What are the benefits of Bokwa?
The main benefit of Bokwa is that it’s an easy class for beginners to jump into. Once underway, Bokwa is a great workout for training flexibility, muscular strength and cardio endurance — all in one. Plus, despite its fun and easy-going class structure, you can expect to burn away a ton of calories.
What can I expect from a Bokwa class?
You can expect an energetic dance workout with a less structured choreography that other dance classes. You’ll follow our trained instructor’s guidance while also including your own dance moves to follow the flow of the music. Expect to have a lot of fun and train your muscles, heart and lungs in the process.
How many calories can you burn in a Bokwa class?
The amount of calories you burn varies with how much effort you put into your dance moves. If you really give it your all, Bokwa has been known to be able to burn away over 1000 calories an hour! However, even if you’re just starting out, you can expect to burn around 300 calories an hour by taking it slow.
Do I need to have experience?
Not at all. Bokwa is designed to be as intense as you want it to be. This means you can start off slowly as you get to grips with the class, before turning things up a notch when you feel like more of a challenge.
